J. L. Hilton, circa 1978
J.L. HILTON lives in North Carolina, where she writes, homeschools her children, and creates unique SF/F themed jewelry. She is the author of the Stellarnet Series, including Stellarnet Rebel (January 2012) and Stellarnet Prince (November 2012). She is currently working on a third Stellarnet book.
Other works include award-winning fantasy novelette Wren & Wood: Oak Moon and children’s book Princess Amber’s Bed. She is an ongoing contributor to the Contact-Infinite Futures SF/SFR blog. A short story, “The Visitor” in DRAGON magazine under the name Llynne Moore, was her first paid publication at the age of 17.
Before the Stellarnet Series, J.L. Hilton worked as a reporter, photographer, editor and columnist, and won awards for her journalistic and artistic photography. For several years, she wrote non-fiction for magazines, newsletters, blogs and newspapers, which allowed her to meet the wide variety of people who inspire the characters in her stories.
Her original jewelry designs are featured in the books Steampunk Style Jewelry and 1000 Steampunk Creations. She is the founder of Triangle Jewelry Makers and blogs about the business side of selling of handmade jewelry. Her graphic art has been made into tattoos, t-shirts, and tank drums.
The author’s real-life adventures include high tea at the Huntington mansion, a degree in psychology, deciphering petroglyphs, visiting Thomas Jefferson’s bedroom, flying experimental military technology, studying ancient Irish history at Duke University, seeing the ice caps of Mars and the rings of Saturn with her own eye (through a very powerful telescope), and being the founder of both the Triangle Jewelry Makers and her city’s Can’t Stop the Serenity Browncoat charity screening to benefit Equality Now and Kids Need to Read.
